Last week, EMERGE marked Global Recycling Day (18th March) by bringing together sustainability champions, businesses, and industry leaders from across Greater Manchester for an inspiring networking event focused on social value, clean stream recycling and the circular economy.

The event included expert panels, featuring voices from the construction industry, entertainment sector, recycling and local businesses. Discussions covered a wide range of recycling & sustainability topics including:

·      The carbon impact of transporting and processing recyclable materials
·      The role of leadership, education and communication in driving cleaner, more effective recycling – from school level to workplaces
·      How businesses can and must integrate social value into sustainability strategies

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to these essential conversations. We will continue to work together and collaborate to make recycling cleaner and greener; to reuse more materials and minimise waste wherever we can!

A tour of the EMERGE Collective

Guests were given the opportunity to tour EMERGE Recycling (pictured at the top of page), Touch Wood and FareShare Greater Manchester at our Maynard House site. They saw first hand, how we champion waste reduction and community engagement across all of our operations. The event was concluded with a delicious afternoon tea laid on by local chef Jason Palin.

Global Recycling Day was also marked by us celebrating our partnership with DuoUK though our new pilot scheme to collect and recycle Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) across Greater Manchester. LDPE is one of the least recycled plastics in the UK and by working in collaboration with DuoUK, we aim to boost recycling rates in the region.
